Peculiar
how the skies have painted themselves tonight;

hastily applied mascara
to make something in time?

dipped in amber,
an overcastly maelstrom -

a half-molten golden gaze of challenge
swirling from the city bank of lights
to ache away
in lower angles,
dull strokes – graphite-like;

tonight the sky is dressed as Orpheus’ iris

in the volatile
and all so fateful back-sight.

Sister, you are so dirty

ashed, afflicted with umwelt, I

even noticed some touching

Sister, you wash such things off.

Your bathroom, your shower, I have been there now

sweeping the curtain aside

all the dead heroes you heaped there, I

pushed my thumbs in them and

pushed my lung-air in them

to live them

but I lived them poorly.

For a while now

I will fall back;

just be the curtain,

be suspension,

arbitrament.

The trails are melting

wanting to puddle,

The taps are turned off;

abrasive tongues rasp on

the pipe mouths.

Upstairs, up above
     you are freezing liquid to obscene sculptures,
crying whining rivers
for the four lacking tears.

sweat from the young men
     who seamed, still are seaming, false seams
in your surcoat

we have this system of colors
     we have a method in trial

heedfully I fill another test-tube
     to squash them all to pieces
by rotation,
letting the fragments of glass become nails
in my flesh, the bone structure

All these sentinels, slate black
herons, snake-birds

hanging unmovably
on the road – for the meantime
the world – on its
shoulders

crept into the part of the
passer-bys, reckoned but always

the orangely-buzzing ball, heatedly egging
drops itself
folding, turns over the edge, goes silent

flat-fingered
the ceiling fan runs across its rosary
